Podcast: Making research that matters to society – insights from two Academy of Management award winners

Management scholars Professor Ronit Kark and Professor Herman Aguinis explore what it means for research to impact on the wider world – and why it matters

16 July 2026

In the run-up to the Academy of Management (AOM) annual meeting taking place later this month, we’re highlighting the global influence of the University of Exeter Business School’s research community with a special podcast featuring two of our Distinguished Research Professors: Professor Ronit Kark (Bar-Ilan University), and former President of the Academy of Management Professor Herman Aguinis (George Washington University).

Together, they received last year’s Academy of Management’s Organisational Behaviour Division Societal Impact Award, which recognises research that has made a meaningful difference beyond academia. In the episode, Professor Ilke Inceoglu from the Exeter Centre for Leadership asks Ronit and Herman what it really means for research to have societal impact. They discuss how researchers can address pressing real-world challenges without compromising academic rigour, why impact begins with asking important questions, and how translating research for practitioners, policymakers and wider audiences is becoming an essential part of scholarship.

Professor Ilke Inceoglu is Professor of Organisational Behaviour and HR Management at the University of Exeter Business School and Director of the Exeter Centre for Leadership.
